-- Looking Ahead

Greetings!

We enjoyed a very active March and we are looking forward this month to a photography trip to southeastern Utah.

Steve and co-author Douglas Isbell gave a presentation on their book and their current work at the Tucson Festival of Books on March 12. Steve also took the opportunity to briefly discuss "Earth Forms" and his diptych combinations of terrestrial landscape interpretations and planetary imagery: "Earth and Space". Their presentation and discussion was carried on CSPAN2 and can be viewed in your browser.

Steve and co-author Laura Tohe (Tséyi: Deep in the Rock, Reflections on Canyon de Chelly) gave a presentation from their book, including Laura's readings and Steve's complementary images of Canyon de Chelly at the Tucson Lit Press Fest at the University of Arizona Poetry Center on March 26.

Following this presentation we headed west to attend the Palm Springs Photo Festival. We very much enjoyed our time at the Palm Springs Photo Festival: excellent and constructive meetings with museum curators, publishers, and gallery directors; extremely helpful technical advice, both from seminars and from off-line conversations; and stimulating evening talks.

Dante's View, Death Valley

Karen and Steve have a joint show at the Griffin Museum of Photography, which opened with a reception on March 24 at the Atelier Gallery at the Stoneham Theatre in Stoneham, MA. We attended the opening where we each gave gallery talks summarizing our photographic career paths and current work. We were particularly happy to see a number of old friends from the area in attendance.

Steve has had 10 images accepted for the Future Forward, first annual juried members' photography exhibition at the Silver Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh. This show opened on March 22. Unfortunately Steve was unable to attend as we were in the Boston area for the opening there and had to return to Tucson directly for the presentation at the University of Arizona Poetry Center.

Joseph Cornell's New Box

Steve and Karen were invited to take part in an the exhibit, Family Ties, an exploration of artistic families, at the gallery at Tohono Chul Park. This show opened on January 13th and ran through April 3. The reception was very well attended and we enjoyed discussing our images with many of the attendees. A review of the show is available online from the Tucson Weekly.

Steve has an image included in the show Center Forward at the Center for Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO. The show will open in June 3 with a reception from 6 - 9 pm.

This month we will be taking an extended trip to southeastern Utah. We hope to be able to complete the visit to the overlook of the Dirty Devil River that we missed on our last trip as a result of the totaling of our fondly remembered and much missed 4Runner II. We will begin in the Capital Reef/Hanksville area and then move to the southern Canyonlands region.
